Stone Summit

Having outgrown the original location in Atlanta, Stone Summit was looking to expand but also create a world class climbing facility and build upon the success of the first location. The chosen site housed an abandoned Circuit City building that we originally were hoping to repurpose as much as possible. However the existing building condition and structural requirements to create a 55’-0” interior climbing wall limited what we could realistically utilize. Our design approach was simple; carefully sculpt the exterior to properly scale the large vertical requirements, allow targeted diffuse light to penetrate as much of the climbing arena as possible, develop a refined industrial aesthetic taking cue from climbing equipment (using a mixture of steel, wood, shipping containers, glass), layer the interior using solids & translucent barriers separating the various spaces. The project is currently under construction and is set to open in the fall of 2014.
