All Souls ChurchA progressive, urban congregation wished to repurpose their existing worship space in an industrial lease space to better address their growing needs. After reprogramming the support spaces, the sanctuary was extended to accommodate seating for more than 400 people. Certain elements found in the plans of traditional Christian churches were reinterpreted in order to address the client’s desire for a more casual, “laid-back” worship environment. The expanded narthex becomes a sort of living room for the congregation to socialize before and after services. Large, custom, pivoting doors lead from the narthex into the main sanctuary which has been retrofitted with custom made light diffusers. New child care areas and Sunday School classrooms were created from reclaimed space located at the periphery of the sanctuary. Additional support spaces include multiple restrooms and a full kitchen to facilitate catered events. |
