Marble LoftsThis adaptive re-use project converted a small cultured marble manufacturing facility into 17 loft units. A surgical removal of part of the existing barrel vaulted roof enabled each unit to gain enough volume for a mezzanine level master suite. The exterior stair tower providing access to the new roof deck was clad in grass veined acrylic panels, a reference to the ‘faux’ marble panels which were once created onsite. Backlit during nighttime hours, the tower acts as an iconic ‘lantern’ for the building’s new inhabitants. |
